Supporting Mental Health and Developmental Well-Being

April is Stress Awareness Month. It is a time to pause, reflect, and recognize the impact stress has on our daily lives. For adults living with mental health challenges and/or developmental disabilities, stress can often be more intense, persistent, and complex.

Self-care is not one-size-fits-all. For some, it might mean quiet time, music, or movement. For others, it could be connecting with trusted people or engaging in creative activities. Encouraging individuals to explore what works best for them, and respecting those preferences, is a powerful way to support well-being.

This month, we also recognize the vital role of caregivers and support staff. Supporting others can be deeply rewarding, but it can also be demanding. Taking time to rest, seek support, and prioritize your own well-being is also essential.

At the heart of Stress Awareness Month is a simple message: everyone deserves support, understanding, and the tools to manage stress in ways that work for them.

Let’s use this month as a reminder to check in with ourselves and with each other.
